    Question In retrospect: Hamilton/Volquez trade

This may have been asked before, probably has, but I didn't see it and since we're halfway into the season now and both are having the type of years they are, it brings up the question.

If you're the GM at the time and you had known then what you know now about both players, would you make the trade? For that matter, is there anyone here who would prefer Edinson Volquez to Josh Hamilton at this point?

    Re: In retrospect: Hamilton/Volquez trade

It's a fair deal for both sides because the value of both assets has skyrocketed since then, but outside of the trade, Texas needs Volquez more than it needs Hamilton.

I can agree that the Rangers need Volquez more than Hamilton, but there is no guarantee that either of them would have put up similar numbers if they had stayed with their former teams. Considering how pitching goes for the Rangers I would be inclined to think that Volquez would still have a 4+ ERA if he were still in Texas. If both were to put up the same numbers than I probably would have kept Volquez. Hindsight is 20-20. If things could be re-done there is no guarantee that it would have worked out as expected.

It's worked out well for both sides, Texas needed the OF, and Cincinnati with the glut of OF needed a P, I think Hamilton is the better player but Volquez filled a need so its even but I'd rather have the good P

    Hamilton.

Volquez is in a position that he might have a soph slump or fizzle out quickly.

Hamilton PROVED that he is a legitimate all star

You can figure out a pitcher.

After 2 years of this, Hamilton is one of the game's most feared hitters.
