    Padres Future backstop called up

Padres purchased the contract of C Yasmani Grandal from Triple-A Tucson.
The move is now official. Grandal, widely regarded as one of the top catching prospects in the game, was hitting 317/.421/.500 with four homers and a .921 OPS over his first 145 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. Nick Hundley has been terrible so far this season, so we doubt the Padres are calling Grandal up to let him sit on the bench.
I'm excited to see what this kid can do and hope he becomes their starter sooner than later.

Excellent! I remember him from the college World Series with Miami. Good player.

Hundley is locked up for 5 mill over the next two, but it seems like Grandal is ready...we'll see what happens, I guess.

I said it before the Hundley extension and I'll say it now, it was premature. Same could be said for Luebke who is out for the year now.

Can't really blame them, though. I doubt they were thinking about A. Trading Latos, and B. Getting a catcher of the future back for him.

But I understand exactly what you're saying.

The Hundley extension came months after the Latos trade.

    Meh, good call.

No idea what they were thinking, then.

Great news for Yaz, had high hopes for him in cinch, but we've got Messeraco. Hope he does well, just not as well as Mez lol

But when Edison volquez pitches it'll be 3 ex reds (last season) at the 1-3 positions

Grandal needs to be brought back up, and Hundley needs to find wood grain imprinting on his ass
