Thursday 06/24 MLB action

Rate this Entry
Yesterday's MLB action was so wild and hopefully didn't get lost in everything that happened in the world of sports, between the World Cup, the NBA Draft, a neverending tennis match, Rasheed Wallace's retirement, and of course the primetime WNBA game between the Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics. Some highlights:

- Adam Wainwright: 4 innings? His streak of 20 straight starts with at least 6 innings pitched is over. Last time he didn't go 6 was on 09/09/09.

- Vernon Wells: 20th career multi-HR game. Blue Jays are 17-3 in those games according to Stats LLC.

- Vladimir Guerrero: Walk-off single to give the Rangers an 11-game winning streak. Now up 4.5 games in the AL West. You can throw it low and outside but Vlad just lunges forward and extends his arm and still makes solid contact even if it looks awkward.

- Dustin Pedroia: Not one, not two, but three home runs from the small guy! And they needed every bit of 'em, winning in extra innings. Huston Street, fail.

- Jonathan Papelbon: Another blown save. Two in a row. ERA approaching 4.

- Gavin Floyd: No-decision in a win for the Sox, but he has now given up 3 total runs in his last 29 innings pitched. 7 shutout yesterday. Still, only 2-7 on the season because he's repeatedly getting Greinked.

- Yovani Gallardo: 9 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 12 strikeouts. 2.36 ERA this season.

- Marlon Byrd wins it in the 13th inning for the Cubs over Seattle. Felix Hernandez with a commendable 9 innings in the loss. Mariners 6-game win streak: over.

- Miguel Tejada: First HR in 205 at-bats, a career worst. 4-for-5, 4 RBI, 3 runs. But enough about him, who cares about the Orioles.

- Charlie Haeger somehow got another start for the Dodgers. Because apparently giving up 5 runs in a start and recording 0 outs is worthy of another chance, says realmofotalk sarcastically. Result: 4.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, 1 home run. Season ERA: 8.40. Season WHIP: 2.07.

    repeatedly getting Greinked
Greinked : To be screwed out of a W due to a poor supporting lineup.
