to be fair... no one wants to pay ryan howard anything. no one wants to pay marlon byrd 8 mil next year, and an option for the year after that [i thought for sure the yankees would bite on that one]. hamels he has under control for another season, so he didnt have to take a david price package. what does utleys contract look like after this year... if hes got another year or two at 15 mil a pop, thats kinda steep, even if he does look like hes a decent ball player again. lees hurt constantly, and hes got another year at approximately 20 million dollars more than a comparable pitcher. so yea, i guess i jumped the gun calling them the losers of the deadline... they actually lost a year or so back.

Agree with everything you said, Hammer. Basically, there were only so many moves he could make. But if I'm him, I go all out to trade Lee and Papelbon. You're paying them anyway, might as well eat some salary and try to find some kind of prospects, since they currently have a bad and old roster with little in the farm system.

i made the mistake of switching away from the giants/bills, to check what was happening in the yankee game. ortiz was coming to the plate against chase whitley. i stupidly kept the channel on.

needless to say, its about 2 minutes later, and im fairly certain the ball is still traveling.

those 2 hour 4 inning games were a lot more tolerable when these two teams were the best, or near the best, teams in the league. now that theyre both mediocre to downright awful, these games are putrid.
