Very close indeed. Congrats to the pot head though. He is definitely the most dominant pitcher in the game today. At least IMO.

Its very debatable with Grienke and Felix. Yes im being a homer but he did have better numbers than Grienke and Tim after he got called out lol.

MLB got it right with both Cy Young's. I'm amazed.

Nice congrats to Timmy! I think Wainwright and Carpenter took votes away from eachother from being on the same team. Also I want to see what that peice of shit Rick Reilly has to say about this now?!?! I'm sure you guys remember his wonderful comments last year about Lincecum winning the Cy!!!!

You see, I don't think being on the same team has that much of an effect. The Cy Young doesn't have the same degree of ambiguity as to which player was more valuable as the MVP. The Cy Young candidates are all taking votes away from each other based on cut and dry stats.

Wainwright just had too many third place votes and not enough second place votes, meaning many writers didn't put Wainwright and Carpenter in the 1-2 exacta box as you would believe.

And I was correct in my assessment. Here's the breakdown of the voting by every writer (after the Q & A section):

My vote would have gone to Wainwright believe it or not. He just dominated games late in the season to seperate the Cards from the rest of the pack. I also think Wainwright has the best curveball in the game. You really can't go wrong with either pick and I am very glad Lincecum won his second CY in just his second full year. What a great start to a career and who I hope is a Giant for a long, long time.

On another note, Keith Law should have his vote taken away after leaving Carpenter off his ballot all together and voting Vazquez second.

What is his actual reasoning behind that, has he said yet? I'm just curious. Vazquez had a nice season, but he wasn't better than any of the top 3 vote getters by any stretch of the imagination.

His reasoning was that he felt Vazquez was the second best pitcher in the NL and one of the Cards HAD to be left off. They played a portion of what Law said on Mike and Mike

I bet it's because Vazquez was 2nd in Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) after Lincecum, and Keith Law, being the saberdork that he is, voted along that line. Oddly enough, Carpenter was 3rd in FIP and he was left out of Law's ballot.

I just listened to that interview with Law and he confirmed what I suspected. He believes Vazquez was better than Carpenter and Wainwright because the St. Louis pitchers' stats were skewed by a better defense behind them. Law then gave third place to Wainwright because he had more innings than Carpenter.
