Re: The worst regular player in the league
It's hilarious, on Giles' Yahoo Sports page, there is an image of his Padre teammates coming to him, ready to exchange high-fives. You click on the image and Yahoo tells you that there are no images in his gallery. I guess its been awhile since Brian has done anything worthy of praise.

"All told, Giles has been worth 1.5 wins below replacement level, good for a “value” of $-6.9 million; the Padres are paying him $9 million over the course of this season."
Priceless. Sounds like something that would be said about a Mets player...

Re: The worst regular player in the league
Imagine the Yankees losing Jeter, Tex, Cano, Bruney, Pettite, and Joba each for 2 months plus, and all at the same time.
Imagine the Sox losing Bay, Youk, Papi, Delcarmen, Wakefield, and Dice-K for the same amount of time all at once.
Imagine the Phillies losing Howard, Utley, Werth, Myers, Blanton, Madson, for the same amount of time all at once.
I mean, I know these teams have injuries, but think about how BAD they would be if the things I listed happened.....

He's making 6 mil with 1 tool... speed. At least Giles has had a couple above average years to his name. Even Tavares' great year is barely average. The rest of Tavares' time in the majors below average... if he's lucky.

Re: The worst regular player in the league
The only reason Brian Giles wins this award is because DeWayne Wise is no longer an everyday player. I wouldn't be shocked if in Wise's limited PT, he has a -1.5 WARP.

Tavares is not making 6 million this season, that's his total contract. He is making 2.25 million this season and I'd much rather have him at that price and production over Giles. I am not arguing that he greatness wrapped up as a leadoff hitter, but Giles has a stink that not even Tavares can come close to matching.

Dewayne Wise would be a great choice, even if he's not an everyday player. The white sox have no one better to use besides him? He even looks horrible at bunting.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of Jordan Danks. That said, I doubt he'd do worse than Wise if he was called up today.
