    Re: A.L. Pitcher of April

I may just say Dan Haren. He has been pure ace...but it's hard to ignore Hallday's 47 innings. 47! Plus that sub-1 WHIP

Beckett has been tremendous for the Sox, what is he, 5-0? But Halladay gets this one because of his 10-inning gem...honorable mention to Luis Vizcaino...NOT

AL Pitcher of the Month- Dan Haren, AL leading 1.64 ERA, .99 WHIP.

His two losses - Felix Hernandez's opening day game, 4 R allowed because Crosby couldn't hold on to the ball. In his 2nd loss to John Lackey, A THROWING ERROR costed him the win.

Honorable Mention -- Roy Halladay and Josh Beckett.

    Beckett or Daisuke.

Both with better DIPS ERA than the others mentioned in this thread and a good K/9 (at least in Daisuke's case). Daisuke has been slightly BABIP unlucky too.

Just wait until about June when he goes to the DL with a hangnail or implodes like every near healthy year.

    Haha.

That should be a blanket statement, they are all injury prone.

    Re: A.L. Pitcher of April

A pitcher's ERA, independent of the defense behind him. This formula, based on essays by Voros McCracken, assumes that all pitchers have consistent BIPA (See Above), and adjusts accordingly. The DIPS ratios on ESPN use the DIPS 2.0 formula, are not park-adjusted, and do not adjust for knuckleball pitchers. (DIPS ERA)

Balls In Play Average. Batting Average Against, not including home runs or strikeouts. (BIPA)

Thanks...now being the fan of statistics that you are, Mr. Fishercat, what do you think of this "DIPS ERA?"
