Royals head physician Dr. Key diagnosed Danny Duffy with a torn left ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.
Brutal news for the young left-hander, who was placed on the disabled list Monday. He'll get a second opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum, but it sounds like Tommy John surgery is in his future. If he undergoes the procedure, he will be sidelined for the rest of the 2012 season and the early part of 2013.
Bad news for one of the Royals young, promising young starters. Duffy was having a decent season after a rough rookie year. He was 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA. Hopefully he bounces back better than ever because I would really like to see the Royals relevant again.
