Royals Royals give Butler an extension

Royals and 1B Billy Butler avoided arbitration Saturday by agreeing to a four-year, $30 million extension.
There's also a $12.5 million club option for 2015. The Royals have bought out all three of Butler's arbitration years, as well as possibly his first two years of free agency. A $7.5 million average annual salary seems like a pretty fair deal for both sides, as Butler requested $4.3 million and was offered $3.4 million from the Royals earlier this week, but he'd obviously be due for raises in subsequent seasons. Questions remain about Butler's power ceiling, but he's batted .309 over the last two seasons while posting very good OPS marks of .854 and .857, respectively.
Great deal for the Royals and Butler. I like Butler and think he will continue to get better even if he is considered a weak hitting DH. Lets also not forget he's just 25.

He could be in line for a big pay raise when this deal is done if he continues to produce, he'll be 29.

He's young and he'll develop some power. He just needs to stay away from the double play. I think this is a good deal for the Royals.
