Royals and RHP Luke Hochevar avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.76 million contract.
Hochevar qualified for Super Two status and was made eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter. A former No. 1 overall pick, he posted an underwhelming 4.81 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 17 starts in 2010 for the Royals. But Kansas City doesn't have many better options and will use him near the top of their rotation again in 2011. The price tag isn't terrible.
Will this be the year Hochevar lives up to his potential? I sure hope so for KC's sake. He's 27 so time is running out on potential. This will be a make or break year for Luke so hopefully he can step it up. Its not going to be pretty seeing him face off against other team's #2 starters.
