    Villone is the answer

The Marlins needed bullpen help. So with their acquisition of Ron Villone, will they use him in a set up role? They already have a solid rotation and I believe that they picked up Villone for bullpen purposes. Could he be the pitcher they needed?

I think he will be effective as a set up man, but not quite the guy they would rally want. Just something that they had to settle for.

I would use Ron Villone more as a lefty specialist (with some hold chances of course) that's where he can be more effective as. But his numbers this season have been very impressive though. His command has been better and the results are showing.

He's really turned his career around these past few seasons:

So far the Marlins newly acquired lefty has pitched 2.2 innings and has not given up a run. He may be used frequently if he can keep this up. I like what he brings to this bullpen.

Didn't he allow a big HR when he came in for Beckett yesterday to Taguchi? Ouch.

Still, I like Beinfest's active approach, not just sitting around and hoping.

Yeah, he did. I agree that Beinfest is taking the right approach too. Villone is just going to have to be trusted in the situations he was signed for.

    So far:
He as allowed 2 runs in 4.1 innings. I think he will be solid for these guys. Last night he came in and Kd two hitters against the Reds and he looked good.

Looks pretty solid to me. Really impressed by the HR:IP Ratio before the trade. 1:20 :O.
