FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rockies were awarded the claim on Wandy Rodriguez.
The Rockies are currently in negotiations with the Astros and will have until 1 p.m. ET on Thursday to work out a trade. Colorado is not in contention, but could view Rodriguez as a piece to build around for the future. He's owed a whopping $36 million over the next three years, but the 32-year-old left-hander has registered a strong 3.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 23 starts this season. He's a quality No. 3 starter.
The Rockies are only 8.5 games out and stranger things have happened. No one seems to want to win the West. He doesn't come at a ridiculous price and is used to pitching in a hitter's park. Looks like a solid pickup to me if it happens.
