    That age ol' question...

If you're placed on the DL, can your replacement take your job?

Scott Rolen came off the DL today, his replacement, Todd Frazier far out played him, and the reds started winning.

Rolen had 29 games, batting .174, with 2 HRs and 11 RBI

Frazier has played 43 games this season batting .284, with 7 HRs and 22 RBI.

Thankfully they can both play in Cleveland this week.

It happens a lot. Frazier just has more motivation to keep playing well. And if Rolen continues to hit at that pace, I am sure that....

Is Rolen as bad as he has played in limited AB's this year? The same could be asked of Frazier and if he is as good. I think you play the hot bat until its no longer hot. Rolen needs time off anyway, let him play less until the warming/cooling trend reverses. I hope Frazier keeps it up, but I'll take performance like that as long as we can get it from him.

Rolen responded well last night. Keep putting him down, Zod.

Lol one game, Rolen had adrenaline in his first 2 ABs. Then was 0-2 his last 2.

Plus last night was a fluke game anyway. 10-9 final, reds vs Indians... Do you really think offense when looking at those 2 teams?

The reds have not won since Rolen came off the DL... He did well in game 1 2-4 2 RBI and tonights game 3-4 2 RBI 1 HR

But the middle games 0-3 and 0-4. making him 5-15 .333 since coming off the DL. I don't know if its the chemistry is off now. But to win 6 straight just before he came off the DL and lose 4 Straight after 3 to a team they just swept and 1 to the freaking Twins. Something is not right.

Frazier just needs to play it seems until he cools off. Give Scotty 1-2 starts a week and use him as the number one PH option.

I think another thing to value is Rolen's attractiveness as a pinch hitter.

Experienced veteran up there taking pitches potentially with RISP...

    Wally Pipp says Hello.

I believe short of you being a premier player in your prime it's certainly possible to lose your spot if someone clearly outplays you. Rolen is well past his prime at this point and needs to realize his time in baseball is about up. He's had an outstanding career and if he still wants to help this team it needs to be as a mentor to guys like Frazier, Cozart, and anyone else who makes the jump from Louisville. While being ready to spot start at 3b and as a defensive replacement. For the good of the team.

    Re: That age ol' question...

Does Rolen have value coming back next year simply as a clubhouse presence, mentor/coach, and late inning defensive replacement/PH option? I would say yes, at the right amount of course. With a talented roster, he brings intangibles to the table.
