I admit it: I was wrong about Willy Taveras and I am loving every second of it

This is a discussion on I admit it: I was wrong about Willy Taveras and I am loving every second of it within the Cincinnati Reds forum; First off, as I explained earlier this year, any kind of disappointment about Taveras was not so much about him ...

I think you along with the rest of the baseball world besides the Reds and Taveras's family thought this was a stupid signing... but he's lilving up to his hype of a few years ao now.

He's got a 1 for 20 slump in him somewhere, don't worry.

I think Taveras is another classic Jocketty "peaks and valleys" type player, where his intuition takes hold. Plus, some quality scouting. That's Jocketty's background. Shouldn't be a surprise.

Those are just some of the reasons I didn't moan about the signing and even envisioned the potential upside.

I'm pretty sure said a bit ago he currently has the longest hitting streak in the league now that Zimmerman's streak was halted.

As for the age comp, think Ludwick, too (simply with a different skill background).

No. It absolutely is a surprise when you consider what we as Reds fans have came to expect from our management. Of course there was some fantastic finds under Krivsky, but they were low profile acquisitions of once impact names (among prospect terms anyway.) We haven't had too much luck with reclamation projects. Jocketty's record speaks for itself of course, but we're usually not accustomed to our management knowing best, see the past ten years. Of course then winning is also a bit foreign to us, but I can certainly get used to both that and Jocketty's scouting ability.

I was not near as devastated as some were and I believed he would perform better than last season, but he looks like a completely different player so far. Kudos Jocketty.

(Welcome back BTW.)

The lineup feels so different when he is hitting. The end of the game was so beautiful, hit after hit in playing some add-on... much of itl with two outs. Beautiful.

You have to love how this team is playing. IF we can get the same Hairston as last year to go along with an improved Taveras it will be a huge boost. Its all about those intangibles that you don't see. I remember them showing a stat tonight on going 1st to third on a single where last year we were 14th in the NL and this year we are number 1. Things like that can really become the difference maker, when combined with better defense, pitch selection ect.
