Hey everyone, I have been very, very busy lately but hope to make a return here now.
I just wanted to make a few early-season observations in the form of "The Jocketty players," aka those brought in by Jocketty this year.
Laynce Nix: .317/.356/.610/.965 in 41 AB, including SEVEN doubles and one triple during that time.
Ramon Hernandez: .282/.344/.365/.709. After a slow start, Ramon is starting to boost the team offensively and his defense and overall game-calling/catching skills have been something we haven't seen in years, IMO.
Willy Taveras: .276/.348/.367/.716. Up and down at times and still not a massive OBP or (obivously) power threat, but I can't complain, especially with his speed and solid (though perhaps not spectactular) defense. Seems to bring an energy at times.
Arthur Rhodes: 0.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 11 IP, 7 H, 0 HR, 3 BB, 9 BB. Um, enough said.
Nick Masset: 1.46 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 12.1 IP, 3 H, 0 HR, 8 BB (his biggest problem), 10 K. Seems to be improving wiht more big-league experience. Could be solid down the road with his ability to pitch for a while.
Micah Owings: 5.08 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, etc. Not stellar numbers so far, though a bad inning here or there has made the difference. Plus, as the fifth starter, combined with his offensive potential while pitching and PH, definitely an asset.
McDonald: Eh, won't be around long.
These players are starting to contribute to something special on the horizon, IMO.
