Tavares is Patterson with better contact. His OBP is very much hit based. Doesnt draw a whole lot of walks. Better bat than Patterson, noodle for an arm. Whats wrong with giving Dickerson a chance?

Edwin vs Atkins bleh pretty much a draw to me. Both are awful in the field, Atkins is older. Now if you think Edwin could move to LF and be average...

Yorvit is nothing with the bat, cant judge the handling of the pitching staff. Why not just sign someone cheap like a Kendall to be a vet with Hannigan and roll the dice? 2009 is expected to be another rebuilding year.

Of the bunch Taveras is the only one Id honestly be after right now and thats if Stubbs/Dickerson is seen as trade bait or not going to be here opening day.

Taveras is Patterson with 50 more steals and about .100 more in OBP than Patterson last year To say he is Patterson with better contact is an insult to Taveras.

Both are very hit reliant OBP, I'd like SOMEONE (ANYONE) on this team at the top of the order that can TAKE A FREAKING WALK at the top. The Reds were near the bottom in Obp. Why trade actual talent that could be used elsewhere to Colorado for Tavares when you have Dickerson or Stubbs possibly for CF for the minimum? 2009 is expected to be a rebuilding year. His career OBP is .331, .050 difference in OBP and BA. Patterson is .040 difference.

Both dont draw a lot of walks, big difference is hitting it where they arent. I honestly don't want either regardless of Stolen Bases because they would be used identically by Duhhsty and thats why I compared the two.

I don't see Dusty holding a guy back who just stole 60+ bases. Plus Taveras is a better OFer than Dickerson. Stubbs needs more seasoning. Just saying Torrealba and Taveras are definite upgrades from this past season. You are unfair to Torrealba who handled a young pitching staff just fine when the Rockies made their amazing run in '07.

It takes patience to know when to lay off a bad pitch and take deep counts, and it takes aggressiveness to put the bat on the ball to avoid a called third strike. It's very tough to be able to do both things. If a batter can do both, he'd be one hell of an overall hitter, nevermind a leadoff hitter.

I can't believe it. I knew Tavares was an eyesore with the bat but he makes Corey Patterson look good?!?!

Oh ya for full disclosure...

Chris Dickerson OPS... .729

Ya we dont need production at the top of the lineup or nothing Duhhhsty.
