White Sox Huge Blow To ChiSox Pen, Chances

The White Sox placed both J.J. Putz and Matt Thorton on the 15 day DL today putting a huge dent in their relief core. Putz has a sore knee and Thorton has a sore forearm. This is a major blow to the ChiSox's chances to overtake the Twins in the Central as Putz and Thorton were their best setup men and at time relievers period. White Sox are only 3.5 games back but Erik Threets and Lucas Harrell who were just called up don't provide the same as Thorton and Putz. Good luck Chicago, you're going to need it. Hey Kenny Williams, Brian Fuentes was just put on waivers. Claim him!

This is good news for the twins if they can actually win some games.

Threets was hurt last Friday and now will require TJ surgery. It just keeps getting worse. The Jays put a lot of relievers on waivers and have been claimed so we will see if the ChiSox got any of them.

They were awarded the claim on Manny, so they go back to the bottom right? Tough to imagine other contenders passing on somewhat decent relief pitching.

I thought Manny was free to sign with any team.

Ha, wouldn't it be something if one team claims all four Jays relievers, and the guys exact their revenge Office Space style, only instead of destroying a crappy fax machine, they issue a gang beat down on J.P. Ricciardi?

    Why Ricciardi?

One team who may match up with both clubs, and the White Sox in particular, is the Toronto Blue Jays. We heard this weekend that Scott Downs, Jason Frasor, Kevin Gregg, and Shawn Camp were all claimed on waivers by unknown teams. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Sox, who have waiver priority over the American League's other contenders, placed claims on one or more of Toronto's arms, though ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Twitter link) doesn't expect the Jays to make any trades.
