    Cubs Ramirez Believes He's Gone

Aramis Ramirez said after Tuesday's game that he believes he's played his last game as a Cub at Wrigley Field.

Ramirez left the game with a mild quad strain, and was asked if it was his last game here.

"Probably," he said. "There's a good chance. I'm a free agent and I don't know what's going to happen. But it looks like I'm going to hit the market."

The Cubs hold a $16 million option on Ramirez. He said he wants to return, but "we haven't heard anything" from the Cubs.

"We don't have a GM, so I don't know who you talk to," he said.

He said neither he nor his agent, Paul Kinzer, has spoken to Chairman Tom Ricketts. Ramirez believes he can play 3-4 more years.

"I think we're ready to move on," he said.

The Cubs have until five days after the World Series ends to exercise Ramirez's option.

"We'll see what happens," he said. "I'm just speculating right now. It's going to be different (Wednesday) because it's going to be the first time that I don't know if I'm coming back."

Without a GM in place, it's really hard to get a good idea of what will be happening with 3B next season. Do they pick up his $16MM option? Do they decline the option and offer a 2 or 3 year deal? Or do they let him walk and scoop up the compensation pick?

If at all possible, I hope the new GM works out a two year deal with him. Obviously, I'm a huge Ramirez fan. But I don't exactly like the options to replace him. The FA market doesn't exactly show any good replacements, and the in-house options are vomit worthy.

I say let him walk and take the draft picks. Use the money to bolster the rotation and build for the future.

According to @ESPNChiCubs, Kinzer (Ramirez's agent) met w/ Bush & Ricketts, let team know ARam will be a FA & is looking for 3-4 yr deal

And I think that is the route the Cubs will take, LTR. I just hope they don't go overboard if they go after Wilson.

Turns out there's a 2 million buyout. So if the Cubs were to pick up the option, he'd have to wave goodbye to that 2 mil. Assuming he's probably going to get a 3-4 year deal out of somebody, I doubt he'd be too worried about it. He'll be the best 3B on the market this offseason.

I just want to know who the new GM is going to be.

Once again, Aramis said that he wants a contract of several years. Something he's certainly not going to get from the Cubs.

He'll be 34 next year... I would not blame the Cubs at all for not giving him a 4 year deal. Great 3B, but given their situation and his age, its a big gamble.

Here's what I expect to happen:

    1) Cubs pick up mutual option
    2) Ramirez declines mutual option, opting for Free Agency
    3) Cubs offer arbitration
    4) Ramirez declines arbitration
    5) Ramirez finds 4 year deal with either the Tigers, Angels, Phillies, or Marlins
