Jon Lester will start on Opening Day in Detroit.
The Red Sox made the announcement Monday morning in spring camp. Lester deserved the nod after registering a 3.53 ERA and 182/75 K/BB ratio in 191 2/3 innings last season. Josh Beckett will pitch Boston's home opener.
I'm surprised they didn't give it to the veteran Beckett but Valentine is making the right call here.
