Baseball/Slant was founded in 2005 and began life known as Strike3Forums. The purpose of B/S was and always will be to deliver an entertaining, knowledgeable and funny baseball discussion. Many of our members were friends outside of the forums or later became friends because of B/S. We like to stick together but we love to welcome new fans in just as much. You won't find pretentiousness or deadly serious types around here, and if you do, they usually don't stick. We love baseball, for everything ...
  2. First Game of The Season

Opening Day is Opening Day, but the season for me really doesn't feel real until I am there in the stands in person and Saturday was that day for me. Game two of the season, Brewers' Marcum versus the Reds' Wood. The game itself was a good one, with Wood throwing a very pitch efficient, strike after strike type of performance. The young lefty is quickly showing he is among the brightest in an already talented Reds rotation with a lot of maturity for such a young pitcher. The Reds bats didn't disappoint ...

I was able to snag a pretty good special though as the Reds had a 'tailgate' offer where you could $35 tickets for $25 with a free $10 concessions voucher. Sweet, huh? Problem was though that as I sat directly in the sun (curious that so many people were choosing to stand in the shade, next to the misting fans) I chose to sit in the sun and baked. Hell, there was even some woman about two rows down, eight seats over who had ...
  5. I Hate The Fantasy Win Method

Why do fantasy commissioners continue to use wins as a major part of the fantasy point equation? Let alone the actual MLB, but I have more faith in fans being able to determine how best to evaluate a player's worth in competition. We're not keeping track of these stats using the newspaper, we have a bevy of metrics to look at and we continue to choose the wrong one, often giving the most weight of points to it.

I am in a 12 league head to head league where wins usually make or break ...
